Izzy Fox, a seventh-grader at Nichols Middle School, won the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state tournament at 156 pounds and improved his record this season to 33-0.

Izzy, a 12-year-old who competes for the Evanston School of Wrestling, captured the title Sunday at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford.

Izzy defeated Sergio Villalobos of Downers Grove in the final. Izzy came out in the first and took Villalobos down right away with a body lock trip. Sergio later took Izzy down with an explosive shot to the legs for two points, but Izzy immediately rolled to his stomach, tucked Sergio’s arm into his far side armpit and rolled Sergio over for a reversal and pin all in one move. Three seconds later, Izzy was the state champ.

Izzy had a bye in the first round at state and he pinned his second-round opponent in under 30 seconds. He advanced to the final by beating his third-round opponent on points.

Izzy gave up only four takedowns all season and he pinned all but four of his opponents.
