Strickland named to defensive first team

Glenbrook South alumnus John Strickland, a defensive back for the Indianapolis football team, was named to the 2012 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team. The sophomore from Glenview finished the season third on the team in total tackles with 98. He also finished with 19 tackles for a loss.
After winning the conference championship, Strickland’s Greyhounds made it to the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. They finished the season with a 10-3 record.
Illinois Wesleyan wide receiver Alex Garvey, also a Glenbrook South graduate, was named his team’s offensive Most Valuable Player for the 2012 season. The junior from Glenview also won the team’s Best Skill award, as he finished the season with team highs in catches (50), yards (751) and touchdowns (10). He was also named to the All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Second Team.
Highland Park alumna Emily Feldman was recently named University Athletic Association Offensive Athlete of the Week for women’s soccer.
The Emory sophomore forward scored two goals for the No. 16-ranked Eagles while helping the team reach the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals for the first time in school history.
Hinsdale South alumnus and St. Cloud State hockey player Jimmy Murray led the Huskies to a 4-3 overtime win against Alaska Anchorage Nov. 30 in Anchorage. The freshman forward finished with two goals, including the game-winner.
The goals were Murray’s second and third of the season. He also has three assists through 13 games, all of which he started for the Huskies.
Dennis Mudd, a senior defender for the Marion men’s soccer team and a Libertyville graduate, was recently named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-American Men’s Soccer Third Team. The Libertyville native finished with a 3.97 cumulative GPA while double-majoring in biology and chemistry. Mudd is just the third Academic All-American from Marion.
Jewell Lloyd, a Niles West alumna and a freshman guard on the Notre Dame women’s basketball team, was recently named Big East Conference Freshman of the Week.
In victories against Mercer and No. 19/22 UCLA, the Lincolnwood native averaged 19 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game. She also shot 72.7 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the three-point line.
