BOYS BASKETBALL: The crowd inside Beardsley Gym witnessed an eerie sight Saturday night with resemblances to 30 years ago. That was because St. Charles East junior forward Kendall Stephens lit up the scoreboard in a 60-53 loss to Evanston after watching his father, Everette, being honored during the pregame festivities.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Trailing by five at intermission, No. 23-ranked New Trier played much more patiently on offense in the second half and it led to a 52-45 win over Evanston at Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena. Northwestern-bound Maggie Lyon scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the final two quarters.

Missing 44-of-56 shots from the field resulted in a 41-35 loss, giving the Wildkits an 0-3 mark against the Wolves this season; 0-10 in Loyd’s four years.
