Handguns, ammunition, cash and computers taken in Evanston burglary

EVANSTON — A burglar got away with two handguns, two laptop computers and assorted ammunition from an Evanston condominium Wednesday.

The burglary happened about 8 a.m. Wednesday at a condo in the 1700 block of Oak Avenue, according to an Evanston police report. It was reported to police at 6:30 p.m.

The burglar forced their way into the apartment, as pry marks were left on the front door, the report said.

Taken in the burglary were two Apple laptop computers, a Glock .40-caliber handgun, an H&K 9mm handgun, a 1.5-cubic-foot safe, various checkbooks, cash, passport documents, various 9mm and 40-caliber ammunition, and 50-caliber ammunition cans.

Evanston police would not share any information about the victim. Police had no suspects, and while they would not discuss the burglary in any more detail, police said the investigation is ongoing.
