Major Wright and teammate Johnny Knox lent their sports power to help raise money for two local Evanston Pop Warner football leagues, the Chargers and the Junior Wildkits.

At the Sept. 23 event children spent an evening with two of Chicago’s superstar athletes.

For a hour, young football fans asked questions of the two Bears.

The event also featured games, a raffle for autographed items and a pizza dinner.

Why Evanston? Dave Gill of the Chargers asked a CelebEvents Inc. representative to bring pro players to motivate and encourage their children. CelebEvents suggested they use the event as a fund-raiser.

CelebEvents felt Major Wright was a good fit because of his own determination and motivation to come back from an injury that sidelined him last season. His focus and hard work helped him come back strong this year. Major Wright and Johnny Knox are players to watch this season.

When asked why he agreed to come and bring Johnny Knox, Major Wright’s response was because “It’s the Wright thing to do.”

The event took place from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

Portions of the $20 per person proceeds benefited the youth football teams.

The High Ridge Chargers are the oldest organized football league for children on the North Shore. They have won multiple national championships and countless bowl games. President and 2008 Youth Hall of Fame inductee Robert L. Taghon served Chargers children for 35 years. On Aug. 21, he passed away in his sleep.

The organization is determined to continue.
