There’s no doubt that hand-washing is instrumental in keeping folks healthy during the cold and flu season. It’s a powerful precaution…but is it enough? For those who want to really bolster their wellness arsenals in advance of the cold weather, North Shore Senior Center presents its Annual Flu and Pneumonia Shot Clinic.
On Wednesday, October 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., North Shore Senior Center will host the clinic at its Arthur C. Nielsen, Jr. Campus, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield, Ill. This is a drop-in event open to everyone age 18 and older. No appointments are necessary.
Who should get a flu shot? “Everyone should receive a shot if they are 65 or older, have asthma, kidney disease, heart disease or diabetes or unless their own doctor tells them otherwise,” explains Michele Corrado, North Shore Senior Center’s Nurse Educator. “It’s quick and easy and an important way to help seniors and other people who have health risks stay well during flu season.”
The shots will be free for anyone who can show a Medicare Part B card. Otherwise, the cost is $30 for a flu shot and $65 for a pneumonia shot. Those who expect to receive a shot should check with their doctor beforehand. For more information, call North Shore Senior Center at 847.784.6038.
