City asks residents to follow parking rules

The City of Evanston is asking residents to voluntarily abide by alternate side parking restrictions today so crews can remove snow. As this is an even date, Feb. 4, the city is asking those who are parked on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses to voluntarily move their cars to the other side with odd-numbered addresses.

Evanston has so far received 2.5 inches of snow with flurries expected to taper off by this afternoon. City crews will be clearing streets into the evening.

Residents and businesses are reminded that they must clear snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their respective properties for the safety of their neighbors after a snow or ice event. If snow is packed and difficult to remove, officials ask that residents please use salt or sand to make sidewalks passable.

Landlords are responsible for keeping sidewalks, parking lots and all common areas, including open stairwells, free from all hazardous conditions at all times.
