Updated: February 25, 2013 11:31AM

An Evanston man injured himself when he jumped from the second level at a northwest suburban mall Saturday afternoon, police said.

The 24-year-old man jumped from the second level of Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg outside of a J.C. Penney store about 4:28 p.m., Schaumburg police Sergeant John Nebl said.

The man was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove with serious but not life-threatening injures, Nebl said.

The man was with at least one acquaintance at the mall, Nebl said.

“We don’t know why he jumped, but it appears he jumped of his own doing,” Nebl said, adding that there is no evidence of any criminal activity. ~.
