Woman, 80, robbed outside Evanston bank

EVANSTON — Police are seeking information about a robbery Tuesday in which an 80-year-old woman was forcibly stripped of her purse.

Police say the incident occurred about 11:15 a.m.

The victim, an Evanston resident, left the Charter One Bank at Main Street and Chicago Avenue, and was walking westbound near Custer Avenue, when approached by the offender who forcibly took her purse, Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in a release.

The offender was described as a black male, 18 to 22 years of age, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, he said. After taking the victim’s purse, the offender fled with two other individuals on foot into the north alley of Main Street, and entered a vehicle, which the fled the area, Parrott said.
