EVANSTON
One of the shots fired into a home on the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue early Sunday lodged into a mattress where a child was sleeping in another apparent incident of ongoing violence between two feuding groups, police said.
Evanston police responded at about 1 a.m. to a shots fired call in the area of Dodge and Simpson Street, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in a release.
Several shots were fired into the home. Parrott said there were numerous individuals in the residence at the time of the incident, including a 5-year-old and 10-year-old.
No one was injured as a result of the shooting, he said; however, during the police investigation, it was determined that several shots had gone through a wall and struck a mattress one which one of the children was sleeping.
After a second homicide occurred in the area earlier this month, as a part of an ongoing feud of gang-related violence, police added extra patrols to the area.
Preliminary information in this incident indicates that it may be related to the same ongoing violence between two extended feuding groups, police said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident, Parrott said. He said no other information is being released at this time.
Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident to call the police department at 847-866-5000 or utilize Text-A-Tip anonymously by texting the keyword EPDTIP to 274637 (CRIMES) with text information.
