Evanston police are investigating a pedestrian accident involving a father and son who were struck by a vehicle this morning while crossing Ridge Avenue at Grove Street.

The incident occurred about 9 a.m., as the father was walking his son to school, said Cmdr. Jay Parrott, the department’s media relations officer. Both father and son were transported to Evanston Hospital by Evanston Fire Paramedics with serious injuries immediately after the incident, he said.

Parrott said the father is now listed in critical condition and the son is listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle is a 57-year-old female resident from Evanston, he said, and at this time no citations are expected to be issued. No names are being released.

The intersection is not controlled by a crossing guard. Evanston police traffic officers and Northern Regional Major Crash Assistance are investigating.

Parrott said Ridge from Lake to Davis street, was closed following the accident.

Also, Grove, from Ridge to Asbury Avenue, was closed for some time as police conducted their investigation.
