Teen charged in burglary

EVANSTON

A broken window screen noted by a burglary victim led to the arrest of a 14-year-old Evanston youth on a burglary charge.

Evanston detectives were investigating a residential burglary that occurred on at approximately 1:50 p.m. Dec. 9 in the 2000 block of Emerson Street.

The victim in that burglary had returned home to find an offender had entered the residence by cutting the screen on a bedroom window. The offender fled upon being discovered by the home owner.

Police were able to positively identify the offender in that burglary. As a result a 14-year-old Evanston resident was charged with residential burglary and remanded to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center for custody on Dec. 13.

Due to the age of the juvenile charged in this investigation, no further information can be released, police said.
