The Evanston Township High School Jazz Ensemble will open the ninth annual Evanston Jazz Festival concert Saturday before trumpeter Orbert Davis and the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic take the stage.
Joining Davis’ group as special guest will be Victor Goines, a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer who has been a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra since 1993.
The evening concert at 7:30 p.m. at Evanston Township High School will cap off a day of events focused on educating middle school and high school jazz musicians and showcasing their talents.
Open to the public, the festival draws more than 400 student musicians from school bands around the Midwest. Last year, more than 40 bands and combos from more than 17 schools participated.
“The students have a great day listening to their peers and spending time with jazz professionals,” said Fodor, who takes special gratification “that true jazz experts provide substantive and constructive feedback for the student musicians.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children, students with an ID and senior citizens.
A $50 family ticket covers admission for two adults and up to four children. Call (847) 424-7848 or visit www.ethsjazz.com to order tickets online. All proceeds go toward enhancing the jazz program at ETHS.
