Metra: UP-North to be ready for evening rush

Metra officials anticipate normal operations on Metra’s Union Pacific/North Line by the evening rush after the derailment of an equipment train in a Waukegan yard Friday morning caused delays of sometimes 90 minutes.
No one was injured when the equipment train derailed, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said. The engineer was the only person on the train at the time. As of about 3 p.m., the train had been removed and crews were working to repair the tracks.
Trains continued to run on one track between the Highland Park and Waukegan stations Friday afternoon, causing delays of up to 45 minutes on outbound trains, Reile said.
Operations were expected to return to normal by the evening rush.
