King celebration lifts up crowd

Residents, civic leaders and performers shared laughter and reflective insights Saturday as they gathered to pay tribute to the legacy of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a celebration Saturday sponsored by the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre and the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center.
The event featured Master of Ceremony Aubrey Marquez and special guest Jeanne Sparrow, from “you and me THIS MORNING” on WCIU Channel 26. Participants included the Evanston Children’s Choir; Ajoite Drum & Percussion and the Glass Family Drummers; the Christ Temple Praise Dancers, Bluesman Vince Agwada, recording artist Sakari and the Fleetwood-Jourdain Singing Fourtet. Speakers included 5th Ward Alderman Delores Holmes, the Rev. Kenneth Cherry, Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and former Mayor Lorraine H. Morton.
