‘Major’ fire reported at Evanston towing company

Firefighters were battling a blaze that started Sunday afternoon at a towing company in Evanston.

The fire was reported about 2:40 p.m. at North Shore Towing, 2527 Oakton Street, according to Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz. Evanston Fire Department had the blaze under control as of 4 p.m. with the help of multiple other agencies, but crews were still fighting smaller fires at the scene as of 6:42 p.m., Bobkiewicz said.

Several cars were on fire, but no buildings were affected, Bobkiewicz said. No injuries were reported.

Oakton was closed between Dodge and McCormick Sunday evening.

A cause had not yet been determined.
