Learn how to cook using ingredients fresh from the garden. Chefs from premiere restaurants around Chicago will give demonstrations in the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden’s open-air amphitheater. 2. Glenview Prairie Club Family Golf Night, 5 p.m. Saturday
Groups of up to six players can play in this weekly golf outing. Glenview Prairie Club Golf & Paddle, 2800 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. $30.

3. ‘Smash,’ 8 p.m. Friday

4. Beer Can Chicken, noon Friday

5. Jazz Meets Blues Concert, 7 p.m. Friday
The jazz and blues concert features special guest blues artist Marlene Rosenberg and more. Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St., Evanston. $10-$15.

6. ‘Clumsy Sublime,’ 8 a.m. Monday
Two unlikely people become friends– one sells magical objects to her neighbors and the other is having a mid-life crisis and still in bereavement ever since his mother died. 7. Labor Day Food, 1 p.m. Saturday

8. Michael McDonald, Toto, 7 p.m. Friday
McDonald has played with The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and Kenny Loggins and has had a successful solo career. Gates open at 3 p.m. Pavilion at Ravinia Festival Grounds, 400 Iris Lane, Highland Park. $33-$55.
