With the need for more storage and popularity fueling the move, aldermen approved Monday a $72,0000 contract with a Chicago firm to expand the city’s non-motorized boat launch facility located at the Dempster Street Beach.
Council members unanimously authorized the city manager to execute a contract with the Midwest Fence Corporation.
Some of the improvements planned for the launch include additional sailboat racks, additional kayak trees, new sailboat racks, and repairs to deteriorated chain link fence at the facility entrance.
The popularity of the facility along with increased usage spurred the move to a bigger facility, officials said.
Plans call for the work to begin in September of of this year with the completion date set at Oct. 24.
