Police arrested a 23-year-old Evanston man on Sunday after he allegedly displayed a knife and made threatening statements to a Radio Shack employee in the 1900 block of Dempster Street.
Dandre D. Nesbitt, 23, of 1807 Monroe St., is charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony. He is due to appear Aug. 22 in Cook County 2nd District court.
Police said the incident occurred just after 10 a.m. A single offender displayed a knife and made threatening statements to the victim and took a pre-paid cell phone, said Cmdr. Jay Parrott, department spokesperson.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot, he said.
Officers already in the area at the time of the call located an individual in the 1800 block of Crain Street after hearing a description in a police radio broadcast, Parrott said.
“As a result of this quick observation, police were able to recover the stolen phone and the knife used in the robbery along with getting a positive identification of the offender from the victim, Parrott said.
