Evanston eyes new $1M areal fire truck

The Evanston Fire Department may soon get a new aerial truck, replacing one that has logged heavy miles, having been in service since 1991.

But the price has sure gone up.

The city purchased its existing Pierce 100-foot aerial ladder truck, now considered in poor condition, for $307,639.

Officials are recommending purchase of a new 100-foot aerial ladder truck from Appleton, Wis.-based Pierce Manufacturing Company for a cost of $1,016,811.

The purchase has been three years in the planning, officials said, and requires a bond issue to spread the purchase over multiple years to minimize the economic impact to the city.
