Noyes Cultural Arts Center to feature artist Morgan Sims

Synesthesia, Acrylic on Canvas, 71”x72”, 2013. | Provided

The paintings of artist Morgan Sims will be featured at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center starting July 13. According to the release:

Intimation, an exhibition of large-scale paintings by artist Morgan Sims, curated by Susan Taylor Gescheidle, will be on display in the First Floor Gallery of the Noyes Cultural Arts Center from July 13 through August 31. The opening artist reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the center, located at 927 Noyes Street.

Sim’s paintings are composed of drips and distortions, transforming the mundane or ambiguous into unconventional symbols.  The results are abstract, yet they inform the viewer that something recognizable may have once existed.

Sims received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and BFA from the University of Washington, Seattle. His work is included in the Neiman Marcus Collection, and the City of Seattle Portable Works Collection. For more information, please visit morgan-sims.com.

During the event, light refreshments will be served. Admission to the reception and exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

For more information, please call Cultural Arts Coordinator, Jennifer Lasik, at 847-859-7835, or visit cityofevanston.org/noyesgallery.

This program is sponsored by the City of Evanston, and supported in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
