Evanston police investigating Payne Street shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in which a 39-year-old Evanston man was shot in the leg Monday evening in the 1700 block of Payne Street.

Officers responded to the area after hearing shots being fired. Upon investigating, officers located a vehicle with several occupants near the intersection of Greenbay Road and Lincoln St. , one of whom was shot several times in the legs, said Commander Jay Parrott, department spokesperson.

The victim was transported to NorthShore Evanston Hospital for treatment. The injuries are non-life threatening and officers.

Two people were detained for questioning but have since been released, Parrott said. Detectives are investigating the shooting, but the victim is not cooperative at this time, he said.
