EVANSTON

Police arrested a 19-year-old Evanston Township High School student Wednesday on a disorderly conduct charge after he was found in possession of a toy pistol on school grounds yesterday.

Adel Mohammed Sobhi, of 818 Mulford St., was arrested at the school, 1600 Dodge Ave., and his toy pistol seized.

Sobhi is scheduled to appear in Skokie’s Second District court Jan. 22. He also faces disciplinary charges by the School District 202 as a result of the incident, Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

School security officers were alerted about 1:30 p.m. to a student who possibly had a gun inside the school. The information was learned by a student and passed along to security staff who notified Evanston police, he said.

Evanston juvenile detectives investigated the allegation, along with the Evanston Police School Resource officer assigned to ETHS, and located the student who allegedly had the weapon.

A search conducted by police did not locate a firearm, Parrott said. However, the student was in possession of a toy pistol that closely resembled a real firearm, which is prohibited on school grounds, he said.~.
