EVANSTON - A 24-year-old Skokie woman whose body was pulled from the Metropolitan Sanitary District on Saturday has died from her injuries.

Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services and Skokie Fire Department responded to the canal at Main Street and McCormick Boulevard at about 10 a.m. Saturday for the report of a female who had jumped into the canal, said Evanston Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl, in a news release issued Saturday evening.

The departments conducted joint operations, and with the help of an eyewitness was able to determine the exact location where she went under, he said.

He said crews recovered the woman, who was transported to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.

A follow up report from the hospital stated that she had died, Hohl said in the news release.

Officers from the Evanston and Skokie Police Departments also assisted, he said.
